Job Description

MAXIMUS is a leading operator of government health and human services programs and has partnered with state, federal and local governments to provide critical, high quality health and human service programs to a diverse array of communities.

A large Federal Government Agency is looking to give disability benefits to all disabled veterans with service-connected medical conditions. To receive a veteran disability, a veteran must go through the disability process. After applying for a disability, the veteran undergoes the Compensation & Pension (C&P) examination to determine the severity of the condition being evaluated. A disability rating is then assigned to each condition by a Physician rater and is used to determine the exact amount of the disability the veteran will receive.

MAXIMUS anticipates over one million assessments will be requested by the client over the next twelve (12) months. Multiple consultants needed.

Job Duties:

As a Physician you will support Veterans by conducting a thorough Compensation and Pension (C&P) examination which requires you to complete the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQs) forms to rate the severity of the medical condition(s). C&P examinations are critical pieces of evidence for determining the extent of permanent impairment and, thus, the percent of disability that defines the benefits a veteran is awarded.

As a Physician you will not conduct a treatment examination, but report your findings about the veteran’s condition(s) in such a way that a legal decision can be made about the veteran’s entitlement to benefits. This process does not involve a traditional clinician-patient relationship where you act as a biased advocate of the claimant, but rather you should act as an unbiased expert simply describing the condition and any disabilities.

The Physician is required to review the pertinent medical records, obtain claimant history information during the exam, conduct a DBQ driven examination, perform/review diagnostic results and obtain and complete the DBQ forms during the examination.

Program Overview:
•About the work: Conducting physical examinations and rating the severity of the medical condition. In some cases, basic diagnostics equipment may be needed such as ECG, lab work, etc. No additional IT equipment needed beyond your personal computer

•Location: Your office and your equipment for diagnostics
•Flexible Schedule: As an independent contractor you will be able set your hours for the assessments and decide your volume of participation.
•Income Potential: Compensation is based on completed services/assessments. Compensation ranges from approximately $200-400 per in-person assessment. In addition, medical opinions that accompany the evaluations are compensated at approximately $130-200 each

Requirements:
•Must have active and unrestricted medical license in any state
