The Maximus SMOMS team supports operations at the NOAA Environmental Satellite Processing and Distribution System (ESPDS). We are responsible for ensuring reliable operation of the systems that decode the data coming from weather satellites, make images, perform scientific analyses to make higher level products, and make these products available to National Weather Services (NWS) local forecast offices, NWS supercomputers, other users at NOAA, US Government agencies, international users and more. The environment consists of multiple data centers connected with high bandwidth circuits, virtual servers, SAN storage, and leading edge monitoring and security controls.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
•Support NOAA’s Product Distribution and Access (PDA) system. This is the portal through which NOAA will distribute near-real-time data from both current and next generation weather satellites. The PDA system interacts constantly with a large Oracle Enterprise database environment. Software to be supported includes data receipt from low-level processing systems, middleware and database that manage the data and creates custom data products for users, and the user portal through which users request products and configure subscriptions for the receipt of those products
•Supporting the initial delivery of the system from the development contractor and the transition to into production
•Monitoring, troubleshooting operational problems that arise, and implementing enhancements from the development contractor, devising local code for functions beyond the baseline system functionality (“tailoring”)
•Share on-call duties for off hours (evenings/weekends/holidays) anomaly response on a weekly rotating basis with other team members

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or at least ten (10) years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
•At least five (5) to eight (8) years of software development experience
•Must be able to work in team environment
•Must be able to share on-call duties for off hours (evenings/weekends/holidays) anomaly response on a weekly rotating basis with other team members
•Key elements of the target software environment include:
oSQL scripting
oActivMQ messaging / Enterprise Service Bus
oPHP, Python, and Shell scripting
oRHEL 6 on VM-ware, Windows 7
oApache, JBoss, WSO2
oClearCase, Subversion

Additional experience and desired qualifications:
•C, C++, F95, IDL
•Tripwire Enterprise and Tripwire Log Center
•Solarwinds enterprise monitoring and alerting
•Systems Administration experience in a Windows and/or Linux environment
•Database programming. Oracle preferred
•Database administration. Oracle preferred
•netCDF-4, arcGIS, other meteorological/scientific data formats
•Minimum 5+ more years’ experience
•Experience supporting a system in an Enterprise IT environment
•Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
•Waterfall and/or Agile SDLC
•B.S. in engineering or science discipline
•NASA/NOAA ground system and product generation/distribution experience

Physical Requirements:
•Ability to sit for up to 80% of time
•Ability to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
