The Systems Engineer is an advanced position focusing on the administration of an Enterprise UNIX and LINUX environment with multiple DMZ’s and a primary focus on Linux and and operating systems such as Red Hat and Ubuntu. The Systems Engineer will provide day to day operation and management of both a physical and virtual infrastructure; network infrastructure includes distributed switching and internal systems software and hardware. You will install, configure and troubleshoot virtual servers & network issues in a heterogeneous enterprise network environment. This position requires STRONG UNIX skills in a Solaris Environment and exceptional DNS and DNS bind experience. Ideal candidates will have experience in the technology areas identified below as well as the ability to quickly learn new technologies in a dynamic enterprise environment.

Job Duties:

•Experience deploying pipelines and automation processes like Ansible, Jenkins and Gitlab CI
•Fundamental knowledge on design techniques and process documentation
•Expert knowledge using GitLab
•Familiarity with Model-View-Control frameworks and Object Oriented Programming (OOP) theories
•Familiarity with AWS
•Experience integrating Linux services into a Windows based environment, including authentication, resource sharing, and configuration management tools
•Work with application teams and other IT support personnel to coordinate system software changes and support changes.
•Analyze production and test system problems, determine causes, and take timely corrective actions.
•Recommend systems and programming standards and procedures including writing shell scripts and programs to automate and/or simplify the UNIX administration procedures.
•Implement patches as directed by enterprise operations lead and ensure adherence to procedures.
•Keep accurate records of UNIX system failures and changes.
•Manage UNIX account maintenance including additions, changes, and removals.
•Maintain the integrity and security of the enterprise UNIX servers and systems.
•Design/implement UNIX systems and network configurations for optimum performance along with troubleshooting and problem resolutions.
•Document and maintain hardware, software and UNIX Administration standards, UNIX Architecture Design, implementation and support.
•Perform hardware, operating system, security and application updates/patches on these systems.
•Ability to work under minimal guidance and will be able to host meetings during design reviews
•Monitor UNIX systems for performance and availability.
•Ability to identify project/program needs and develop strong technical, innovative solutions for addressing use of existing
•Experience implementing controls based on the Security Technical Implementations Guide and the Risk Management Framework
•Create automation scripts for configuration, backup, and restoration using well known scripting languages (BASH/Python/Perl)
•Provide Tier III technical support in accurately troubleshooting or researching systems and software so that problems are resolved quickly without significant interruption to service
•Experience with VMware
•Experience in Web development
•Respond to tickets through our ticketing systems.

•Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required, equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree
•At least five (5) years of demonstrated experience providing Systems Administration with Linux and operating systems, such as Red Hat, Ubuntu
•Scripting experience (Bash, Python, and Perl)
•Solid understanding of UNIX host based security
•Understanding of iSCSI, NAS, & SAN infrastructure and configuration
•Experience supporting closed/secure environments
•Experience with configuring and utilizing remote datacenter management tools targeting system health

Preferred Skills:
•Understanding of and comfortable with the following concepts:

Physical Requirements:
•Work is performed in a general office environment
•Ability to sit for up to 80% of time

Additional Requirements as per Contract/Client:
•Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust Security Clearance

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
